Our Journey
The challenging times for the oil industry in the 1980s led many of the service providers to abandon the Illinois Basin. In the early 1990s, the Jones family recognized the need for readily available, cost-effective well services in the heart of the Illinois Basin. With that pioneering mission, our founder, Donald E. Jones, Jr., acquired Franklin Acid Services in 1994 to ensure basic acidizing services remained available to the operators in the basin. With a long-term growth vision, the name was changed to Franklin Well Services to reflect this endeavor.
While Franklin Well Services continued its reputation for service quality in acidizing, the company began an ongoing effort to expand its well service line. That expansion into additional well service offerings began with well cementing. Initially, Franklin Well Service started with simple ground inductor mixers for basic surface and plugging projects; however, the basin needed a reliable, cost-effective well-cementing service provider for larger, more complex projects. Recognizing this regional need as an opportunity for growth, Franklin introduced modern well-cementing blending and mixing equipment to provide cement services for deeper wells, including horizontal wellbores. The growth of directional drilling and horizontal wellbores in the 2000s opened a natural path for Franklin Well Services to expand into hydraulic fracturing. With the acquisition of fracturing blenders and pressure pumps, Franklin Well Services equipped itself to provide hydraulic fracturing services for operators throughout the basin. Additionally, Franklin Well Services brought drilling fluids into its portfolio to complement the well drilling programs in the basin.
With an integrated product and service line, Franklin Well Services has established itself as the Basin’s most comprehensive provider of premium well services for oil and gas wells. As demand for well services grew, Franklin Well Services expanded its services beyond the oil and gas sector. Today, Franklin Well Services offers an extensive line of services and products that can be used to service injection and disposal wells, gas storage fields, CCUS wells, water wells, and beyond, in addition to offering the basin’s best line of services for the oil and gas producers. Whether the job calls for work in the Illinois Basin or the broader region, Franklin Well Services stands ready to deliver for the well challenges of today and tomorrow.
